A’s Recall LHP Pedro Figueroa and RHP Evan Scribner from Sacramento

The Oakland A’s recalled left-handed pitcher Pedro Figueroa and right-handed pitcher Evan Scribner from Triple-A Sacramento, the club announced today.  The A’s also placed right-handed pitcher A.J. Griffin on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder and optioned Michael Taylor to Sacramento.

Figueroa joins the A’s for the fourth time this year and has a 1.50 ERA in nine relief appearances with Oakland.  He posted a 2.00 ERA in eight games during his first stay from April 21 to May 21 but issued nine walks in 9.0 innings.  Figueroa returned for a second time June 17 and pitched in one game, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings against San Diego that day, before being optioned again June 21.  He was also with the club from July 13 to 15 while Jim Miller was on the paternity list, but did not appear in a game.  Figueroa is 0-2 with a save and a 2.67 ERA in 25 relief appearances with Sacramento.  He has allowed a .208 opponents batting average, including .170 against left-handed hitters.

Scribner joins the A’s for the third time this year and has a save and a 1.93 ERA in 12 relief appearances.  He did not allow a run in two games in his first stint with Oakland from June 6 to 15 and then posted a 2.79 ERA in 10 relief appearances during his second stay from June 24 to August 2.  Scribner did not appear in a game with Sacramento following his most recent option on Friday and is 3-0 with eight saves and a 3.03 ERA in 26 relief appearances overall with the River Cats.

Griffin left the game in the second inning yesterday with a strained right shoulder.  He was selected from Sacramento June 24 and went 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA and .202 opponents batting average in eight starts.  Taylor was recalled from Sacramento Friday and went 0 for 5 with three strikeouts in two games.  He is 3 for 21 (.143) with 10 strikeouts in six games overall with the A’s.
