A's Recall LHP Pomeranz and 1B Freiman from Single-A Beloit

The Oakland A's recalled left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz and first baseman Nate Freiman from Single-A Beloit, the club announced today.

Pomeranz joins the A's for the third time this year and is 5-4 with a 2.66 ERA in 18 games, including nine starts. He was on the A's Opening Day roster and went 1-1 with a 1.98 ERA in nine relief appearances before moving into the starting rotation May 7. The 25-year-old left-hander then went 4-3 with a 3.21 ERA in eight starts before going on the 15-day disabled list June 17 with a fractured right hand. Pomeranz was reinstated from the DL and optioned to Sacramento July 13 before returning to Oakland to start for the A's last Wednesday at Houston. He allowed one unearned run in 5.1 innings and had a no decision in the A's 5-4 win before he was optioned to Single-A Beloit the next day. Pomeranz did not appear in a game with the Snappers after going 3-1 with a 3.69 ERA in eight starts with the River Cats.

Freiman also joins the A's for the third time in 2014 and is batting .241 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 22 games. He hit .212 in 14 games during his first stint from June 29 to July 26 and then batted .286 with three home runs and six RBI in eight games during his second stint from August 3 to 26. The 27-year-old right-handed hitter was sent to Beloit when Pomeranz was promoted to Oakland August 27 and went 4 for 9 (.444) with two doubles, a home run and two RBI in two games with the Snappers. Freiman also hit .284 with 15 home runs and 74 RBI in 80 games with Sacramento.
