A's Recall RHP Brooks from Nashville; Designate LHP O'Flaherty for Assignment

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's recalled right-handed pitcher Aaron Brooks from Triple-A Nashville and designated left-handed pitcher Eric O'Flaherty for assignment, the club announced today.

Brooks was acquired from Kansas City on Tuesday in the Ben Zobrist trade. He spent most of the season at Triple-A Omaha where he was 6-5 with a 3.71 ERA in 18 games, including 17 starts. The 25-year-old right-hander also made two appearances with Kansas City and allowed three runs on six hits in 4.1 innings for a 6.23 ERA. Brooks last pitched for the Royals June 21 and went 2-2 with a 4.29 ERA in six starts with Omaha after that. He was assigned to Nashville following the trade but did not pitch for the Sounds. Brooks was the Royals ninth round pick in the 2011 draft and is 0-1 with a 20.57 ERA in four career appearances with Kansas City.

O'Flaherty was 1-2 with a 5.91 ERA and .312 opponents batting average in 25 relief appearances with the A's. His opponents average included a .186 mark against left-handed hitters compared to .420 against right-handers. O'Flaherty signed a two-year deal with Oakland following Tommy John surgery in 2013 and was 2-2 with a save and a 4.14 ERA in 46 games overall with the A's. He has a 2.99 ERA in 419 career appearances.
