A's reinstate IF Callaspo from 15-Day DL; Option 1B Freiman to Sacramento

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland Athletics have reinstated infielder Alberto Callaspo from the 15-day disabled list and optioned first baseman Nate Freiman to Triple-A Sacramento, the team announced today.

Callaspo was placed on the DL July 12 with a right hamstring strain. He appeared in one game on a rehab assignment with Single-A Stockton last night, a start at second base (also appeared at third base). Callaspo is batting .234 with three home runs and 31 RBI in 83 games. He has started at least 10 games at four different positions, including 29 at designated hitter, 18 at second base, 16 at first base and 13 at third base. He is the first Athletic to start at least 10 games at four different positions since Jason Giambi in 1996.

Freiman was batting .212 with one home run and six RBI in 14 games. He was recalled from Sacramento June 29 for his first stint with the A's this season and started eight of the A's 23 games since then at first base. Freiman was leading the Pacific Coast League and tied for fourth in all of minor league baseball with 69 RBI at the time of his promotion. He was batting .277 with 14 home runs in 76 games for Sacramento.
