A's reinstate O'Flaherty from the DL; designate Francis for assignment

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's reinstated left-handed pitcher Eric O'Flaherty from the 60-day disabled list and designated left-handed pitcher Jeff Francis for assignment, the club announced today.

O'Flaherty began the season on the 60-day DL as he continued to recover from May 21, 2013 "Tommy John" surgery on his left elbow. He began a rehab assignment with Single-A Stockton June 6 and pitched in one game before he was transferred to Triple-A Sacramento June 11. The 29-year-old left-hander combined for a 1-1 record, a 3.86 ERA and .188 opponents batting average in eight appearances with both clubs. O'Flaherty, who signed a two-year contract with the A's as a free agent in January, last pitched in the majors with Atlanta on May 17, 2013 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Francis was claimed off waivers by the A's from Cincinnati May 18. He went 0-1 with a save and a 6.08 ERA in nine relief appearances with the A's after going 01 with a 5.40 ERA in one start with the Reds.
