A's reinstate O'Flaherty from disabled list; Option Castro to Nashville

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's have reinstated left-handed pitcher Eric O'Flaherty from the 15-day disabled list and optioned right-handed pitcher Angel Castro to Triple-A Nashville, the team announced today.

O'Flaherty is 0-2 with an 11.57 ERA in eight relief appearances with the A's this season. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list May 2 with a strained left shoulder. O'Flaherty began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville May 27 and was transferred to Single-A Stockton May 30. He did not allow an earned run, walk a batter or record a strikeout over 2.0 innings in two rehab appearances overall.

Castro joined the A's for the second time this year on May 30 and did not appear in a game prior to being optioned today. He began the season at Nashville and went 0-1 with a 3.79 ERA in six games, two starts, before he was selected by the A's May 8. Castro has not allowed a run in three of his four relief appearances with Oakland (3.00 ERA), but has allowed six hits in 3.0 innings for a .462 opponents batting average. He has a 3.60 ERA in seven games with the Sounds overall.
