OAKLAND -- Ryon Healy enjoyed his second multi-homer game in three days, accounting for all of the A's runs in a 5-3 series-opening win over the Blue Jays at the Coliseum on Monday evening.
"If he doesn't show up for work today, we're in a little bit of trouble," A's manager Bob Melvin quipped.
It was the first career five-RBI game for Healy, who tagged Toronto starter J.A. Happ for a three-run homer in the second inning and a two-run shot in the fourth. He also homered twice in Saturday's victory opposite Washington and has hit 10 of his career-high-tying 13 home runs in his last 29 games.

"I'm just trying to get the consistent feeling, and I've been able to do that a few times here in the last few days, but that doesn't mean I'm sitting here satisfied with what I've done," Healy said. "So far so good, so continue to build on that."

A's starter Sean Manaea extended his winning streak to four games with a six-inning, two-run performance. The lefty yielded four hits, including RBI doubles to Josh Donaldson and Kevin Pillar, and walked three with seven strikeouts. Happ took the loss after allowing five runs on four hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings.

Blue Jays first baseman Justin Smoak notched his team-leading 15th home run in the eighth, firing a two-out solo shot against former teammate Liam Hendriks. Toronto finished 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and is now 0-for-32 in those scenarios over the last five games.
"I don't think he was that bad, other than, take Ryon Healy out of the lineup," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said of Happ. "Unfortunately you can't do that, but he hung in there, he got his pitches in, which we definitely needed to do. We had some missed opportunities, too."

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Walk this way: Walks hurt both starting pitchers, who combined for six of them -- four resulting in runs. Happ, granted a 1-0 lead in the first inning, was unable to put together a shutdown second inning, instead opening an opportunity for the A's by issuing a leadoff free pass to Khris Davis. "Two walks before two big hits," Happ said. "Two runs wouldn't have been as bad. You can live with that but the walks beforehand, really frustrating."
Traffic control: Manaea boarded each of his first two batters of the fifth inning but he was able to limit the damage to one run and maintain a sizeable lead. After walking Ezequiel Carrera and allowing a run-scoring double to Pillar, Manaea induced a ground-ball out from Donaldson for the first out. Though Pillar advanced to third on the play, he never made it home, running into an out at the plate when Jose Bautista hit a sharp grounder to third baseman Trevor Plouffe, who fired the ball to catcher Josh Phegley for the out. Manaea struck out Kendrys Morales to end the inning and returned for the sixth, despite sitting at 100 pitches, and faced the minimum to finish at a career-high 111.

"I was down three or four guys in the bullpen today, so he needed to pitch deep in the game for us," Melvin said. "It looked like, after the first two innings, he might pitch five innings the way they were making him work. To be able to give us six innings like that was big."

Davis was lifted for pinch-hitter Matt Joyce in the eighth inning after experiencing calf tightness. After the game, Davis said he already felt better after receiving treatment.

Blue Jays: Right-hander Marco Estrada (4-3, 3.86) will take the mound when this series continues on Tuesday night with first pitch scheduled for 10:05 p.m. ET. Estrada is coming off a rough outing vs. the Yankees in which he allowed seven earned runs on nine hits over 3 2/3 innings. The seven earned runs were the most Estrada has allowed since joining Toronto prior to the 2015 season.
A's: Right-hander Jesse Hahn is scheduled to come off the disabled list Tuesday for a start against the Blue Jays, with first pitch at the Coliseum scheduled for 7:05 p.m. PT. Hahn was 1-4 with a 3.81 ERA in nine games (eight starts) when he was placed on the DL with a right triceps strain May 27, retroactive to May 24.
