GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Sam Fuld homered during a four-run second inning and later tripled as the A's went on to a 9-4 victory over a split-squad Reds team on Friday at Goodyear Ballpark.
Reds starter Jon Moscot was tagged for four earned runs and six hits over 3 2/3 innings, walking one and striking out two. Moscot, who also gave up four runs his last time out, is trying to make Cincinnati's rotation.
Oakland notched four hits in the top of the second, with Renato Nunez rolling a one-out RBI single into left field for the game's first run. Next was Fuld, who hit a 1-1 Moscot pitch over the right-field wall for a three-run homer.
"This is a position he's been in many times before," A's manager Bob Melvin said of Fuld, who's battling for a backup outfield role. "He's a fighter, and he just goes out there and plays. … He's a pro. When situations look a little clogged and cloudy, you just have to go out there and do the best you can."
Reds manager Bryan Price would like to see Moscot throw the ball better than he has lately.
"He got aggressive kind of after the four-run inning," Price said. "I think some of these guys get caught between the methodology of pitching compared to competing. We haven't been very good here lately in really any facet of our game the last few games.
"We have to get away [from] thinking so much about the method in competition and get into the competition and compete better. I think he did that after the four-run inning. Sometimes you can't take the punch first and pull yourself off the mat and expect to recover."
Likely to make the A's rotation, starter Chris Bassitt worked three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three.
A's reliever Marc Rzepczynski gave up three runs in the fourth inning, including a two-run homer to right-center field by Jordan Pacheco. It was the second homer of the spring for Pacheco, who's trying to land a spot on the Reds' bench. Reliever Fernando Rodriguez followed Rzepczynski with 1 2/3 scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
Making his spring debut after undergoing reconstructive right knee surgery last year, Reds shortstop Zack Cozart went 1-for-2 with a two-out single in the third inning. Joey Votto went 1-for-3 with a leadoff single to left field in the fourth inning.

Billy Burns (.462 average) continued his solid spring for the A's with a 1-for-3 game. Burns singled up the middle with two outs in the second inning.
The A's tacked on four runs in the top of the seventh against Timothy Adleman and Tony Cingrani to pull away. Three of those runs were unearned, as Cincinnati committed two errors.
Up next for the A's: The A's will travel to Surprise Stadium to take on the American League West-rival Texas Rangers at 12:05 p.m. PT on Saturday in a game airing on MLB.TV and Gameday Audio. Right-hander Kendall Graveman will get the ball for Oakland, and he's scheduled to be followed by lefty Eric Surkamp, righty Chris Smith, lefty Daniel Coulombe and righties Angel Castro, Ryan Doolittle and Eduard Santos.
Up next for the Reds: Continuing his bid to earn a spot in the Reds' rotation, left-handed pitching prospect Cody Reed -- ranked No. 3 in Cincinnati's system -- will make his second start and third appearance of the spring on Saturday at 9:05 p.m. ET, when the Reds host the Mariners at Goodyear Ballpark in a contest airing on Gameday Audio. Reed worked three scoreless innings his last time out, against the Angels.
