A's Select 30 Players on Final Day of 2017 First-Year Player Draft

The Oakland A's selected 30 players on the third and final day of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, the club announced today.

The Oakland A's selected 30 players on the third and final day of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, the club announced today. The total included 24 college players and the A's drafted college athletes with 32 of their 41 picks overall. The breakdown includes 19 pitchers, three catchers, 11 infielders and eight outfielders.
Notable selections from day three include first baseman Aaron Arruda in the 12th round from Fresno State. Arruda led the team in batting average (.373), hits (91), home runs (15), RBI (67), total bases (157), on-base percentage (.448), slugging percentage (.643) and fielding percentage (.993). Outfielder Raymond "Mickey" McDonald, the A's 18th round pick out of Illinois-Chicago, is from San Mateo and graduated from Serra HS. In the 35th round, the A's selected catcher Cooper Goldby from Lewis-Clark State. The Yuba City native hit .309 in 27 games this season. The A's drew from Northern California again in Round 39 when they took left-handed pitcher Haydn King from Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose.
