A's Select SHP Pat Venditte from Nashville; Option RHP Dan Otero to Nashville

The Oakland A's have selected the contract of switch-handed pitcher Pat Venditte from Triple-A Nashville and optioned right-handed pitcher Dan Otero to Nashville, the team announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, outfielder Coco Crisp was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

Venditte is 1-0 with a 1.36 ERA in 17 games, including one start, with Nashville this year and will be making his Major League debut. He would become the first switch-handed pitcher to appear in a Major League game since Greg Harris on Sept. 28, 1995. Venditte has held opponents to a .167 batting average with the Sounds, which includes a .095 mark against left-handed hitters and .202 against right-handers. The 29-year-old is 18-22 with a 2.37 ERA and 52 saves in 259 games, including nine starts, in eight minor league seasons.

Otero is 2-3 with a 6.29 ERA in 23 relief appearances for the A's this season. He has allowed six runs over his last four games and 5.2 innings (15.88 ERA) after allowing just two runs over his previous 11 games and 8.2 innings (2.08 ERA). In parts of three seasons with the A's, Otero is 12-5 with a 2.70 ERA in 128 relief appearances. 

Crisp is batting .044 with no home runs or RBI in 13 games for the A's this season. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list May 30 retroactive to May 23 with a cervical strain. This is his second stint on the DL as he began the season on the DL after undergoing surgery on his right elbow. He was reinstated from his first stint May 6.
