OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's traded outfielder Rajai Davis to the Boston Red Sox for minor league outfielder Rafael Rincones, the club announced today.
Davis was batting .233 with five home runs and 18 RBI in 100 games with Oakland. He is tied for the American League lead with 11 stolen bases since the All-Star Break and ranks fourth with 26 stolen bases overall. The 36-year-old outfielder returned to the A's as a free agent prior to the 2017 season. Davis previously played for Oakland from 2008-10 and leaves the A's ranked seventh on the Oakland career stolen base list with 142. He is a .264 career hitter with 60 home runs, 371 RBI and 391 stolen bases in 1301 games over 12 seasons with Pittsburgh (2006-07), San Francisco (2007-08), Oakland (2008-10, 17), Toronto (2011-13), Detroit (2014-15) and Cleveland (2016).
Rincones is batting .258 with a home run and 19 RBI in 57 games with Boston's affiliate in the Dominican Summer League. He has 32 walks for a .373 on-base percentage and has stolen eight bases. The 18-year-old native of Venezuela made his professional debut last year with the Red Sox affiliate in the DSL and hit .275 with a home run, 20 RBI and 21 walks (.400 on-base percentage) in 40 games.
