A's Trade RHP Evan Scribner to Seattle for RHP Trey Cochran-Gill
OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's traded right-handed pitcher Evan Scribner to the Seattle Mariners for minor league right-handed pitcher Trey Cochran-Gill, the club announced today.
Scribner spent the entire season in the majors for the first time in his career last year and was 2-2 with a 4.35 ERA in a career-high 54 relief appearances. He surrendered 14 home runs, which were the most among Major League relievers and third most in Athletics history. The 30-year-old right-hander walked just four batters while striking out a career-high 64 in a career-high 60.0 innings and his strikeout to walk ratio of 16.00 was second best in modern Major League history (since 1900) among pitchers with at least 60 innings. Scribner is 5-2 with a 4.21 ERA in 125 career appearances, including 115 games with the A's over the last four years.
Cochran-Gil pitched for three different teams in the Mariners farm system last year and combined for a 6-5 record, six saves and a 4.18 ERA in 45 games. He allowed a .255 opponents batting average and did not surrender a home run in 75.1 innings. The 22-year-old right-hander spent most of the season at Double-A Jackson where he was 4-3 with a 5.43 ERA in 34 relief appearances, Cochran-Gill was selected by Seattle in the 17th round of the 2014 draft and is 11-5 with a 2.90 ERA in 70 appearances in two seasons as a professional. He has not allowed a home run in 111.2 innings.
