Cabrera exits with right hamstring strain

ST. PETERSBURG -- Asdrubal Cabrera left Saturday's 3-0 win over the Astros due to a right hamstring strain.

The Rays' starting shortstop's status is day to day, according to Cabrera and the Rays.

"We'll know more tomorrow, really not a lot of information on it right now," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "See how he comes in tomorrow and have doctors come in and look at him and stuff."

After Cabrera injured himself, he left the game and saw a doctor.

"The doctor told me he doesn't think it was that bad," Cabrera said. "That's why we will wait until tomorrow."

Potential candidates who might be brought in to fill Cabrera's vacancy include Tim Beckham and Nick Franklin. But both were still in the Triple-A Durham lineup after the Rays' game ended.

The injury occurred on a play with two outs in the second. Cabrera scored from second base on Rene Rivera's single to right. Halfway between third and home, Cabrera began to sputter. After crossing home plate to put the Rays up 2-0, he hobbled until falling inside the on-deck circle.

"Before I get to third, I do a big jump to get the base," Cabrera said. "And that's when I feel it. ... I feel like somebody shoot me. At that moment, I feel really bad. ... But I feel better right now. See tomorrow how I wake up tomorrow."
