Astros acquire Verlander from Tigers

The Houston Astros have acquired six-time All-Star Justin Verlander and a player to be named later or cash considerations from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for three prospects, outfielder Daz Cameron, right-handed pitcher Franklin Perez and catcher Jake Rogers. HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros have acquired six-time All-Star Justin Verlander and a player to be named later or cash considerations from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for three prospects, outfielder Daz Cameron, right-handed pitcher Franklin Perez and catcher Jake Rogers. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow.
Verlander, 34, has posted a 10-8 record and a 3.82 ERA (73ER/172IP) in 28 starts for the Tigers this season. Entering today, Verlander ranked fifth in the AL in innings pitched (172) and strikeouts (176) and seventh in opponent batting average (.234). Over his last 11 starts, Verlander has posted a 2.31 ERA (19ER/74IP), posting quality starts in nine of those 11 contests.
A veteran of 13 Major League seasons (2005-17), all with the Tigers, Verlander is a six-time All-Star (2007, 2009-13), won the Rookie of the Year in 2006 and won the Cy Young and MVP Awards in 2011. He has finished in the top five of Cy Young voting six times, including a second-place finish in 2016, when he went 16-9 with a 3.04 ERA (77ER/227.2IP), while leading the AL in strikeouts (254) and WHIP (1.001).
Verlander has pitched in the postseason five times (2006, 2011-14), posting a 7-5 record and a 3.39 ERA (37ER/98.1IP) with 112 strikeouts in 16 career starts.
