HOUSTON -- While Astros rookie Alex Bregman has looked comfortable on defense since making his Major League debut on July 25, offense has been quite a different story.
That's started to change his last three starts, culminating with an impressive showing in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Rangers. Bregman put together a 3-for-5 night, including an RBI single, a double and a run. It was Bregman's first multihit game and first game with an RBI.
Bregman's RBI single in the ninth inning made him the youngest third baseman in club history to record a three-hit game, breaking Jimmy Paredes' mark set on Aug. 9, 2011.
"I would've traded that for a win, any day of the week, but it was nice to get a few balls in," Bregman said of his performance. "Felt good."

There's been noticeable improvement from a player who started his career 1-for-32 at the plate.
"He's gonna be a good player, and nights like tonight are going to propel him with confidence and let him know that he can contribute at this level," manager A.J. Hinch said.
Since Hinch elected to give Bregman a day off on Wednesday, Bregman has batted .364 with four hits, two runs and two walks in 11 at-bats.
"If [Hinch] puts me in the lineup, I'm going to give him 110 percent," Bregman said. "If he doesn't, I'm gonna be the best teammate I can be. Just trying to do anything I can to help the team win and that's it."
Hinch has a lot of confidence in his young third baseman, whom the Astros selected second overall in the 2015 Draft. MLBPipeline.com ranks him as the club's top prospect. Bregman has batted second in the lineup for most of his brief career, despite the early struggles.
"I've left him in the two-hole for a reason," Hinch said. "I think he's a good player. I think this is a minuscule amount of at-bats to judge him on. Tonight doesn't surprise me at all. The less we carry the first 30 at-bats with us, the more we'll look at him through a different lens as one of our better players."
