HOUSTON -- Astros catcher Brian McCann passed a concussion test Wednesday and said he fully expects to return to Houston's lineup Saturday against the Orioles.
McCann, who believes he suffered a concussion on May 14, hit the seven-day concussion disabled list Sunday, retroactive to May 20.
On Monday, McCann described the lingering concussion-like symptoms as "fogginess," provoking his place on the DL.
"I feel so much better," McCann said Thursday. "I feel like I'm back to 100 percent and I fully expect to play on Saturday. My head, it's cleared up. I feel like myself."
As part of his rehab, other than throwing and running, McCann took a full batting practice prior to Thursday's game against the Tigers. He'll catch a bullpen session, too, Astros manager A.J. Hinch said.
"Yeah, he's doing a lot more," Hinch said. "He's done a little bit of everything, we're just waiting on time. He's got to wait until Saturday, but all signs are really positive for him. He's going to take [batting practice], caught a bullpen [session], threw, ran, he's doing everything you need to do as a baseball player. He's having no issues whatsoever. The way he's described it, he feels 100 percent back to himself and that's a good sign."
Catcher Juan Centeno joined the Astros in McCann's absence from Triple-A Fresno, though he'll likely return upon McCann's reinstatment from the DL. In his Astros debut Tuesday, Centeno drilled a solo home run and went 2-for-3.
Centeno made his second big league start in Thursday's series finale against Detroit. For that, he said, he's thankful for this week in the big leagues.
"It's been good, man. To be on a winning team with this great group of guys, it's awesome," Centeno said. "[I'm] just very thankful they gave me a chance to do my best. Whatever happens, happens, and I'll just be ready to play."
