Carlos Correa took another step toward a return to the Astros on Thursday, beginning a Minor League rehab assignment with Triple-A Fresno.
Correa, who underwent surgery after tearing a left thumb ligament on July 17, started at shortstop for the Grizzlies and played six innings in the team's matchup against the Tacoma Rainiers. He went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a sacrifice fly.
Correa is slated for an off-day Friday, and his rehab is mapped out for at least a week, Astros manager A.J. Hinch said Wednesday.
"Whether that's shorter or longer, that can be altered by what we see and what he feels and what's in the best interest of everybody," Hinch said.
Correa isn't the only injured Astros embarking on a rehab assignment with the Grizzlies this week. Right-hander Lance McCullers will start Friday in Fresno, and relievers Will Harris, Tony Sipp and Michael Feliz are scheduled to follow.
