HOUSTON -- Astros All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa could be activated from the disabled list and return to action on Sunday against the Mets, manager A.J. Hinch said Friday.
Correa had surgery after tearing a left thumb ligament on July 17, and he has been on a Minor League rehab assignment for the past week. He was scheduled to make what would likely be his final appearance for Double-A Corpus Christi on Friday before returning to Houston on Saturday.
Correa played in four games for Triple-A Fresno, going 4-for-14 with four RBIs, before going 2-for-5 Thursday night for Corpus Christi.
The Astros also appear close to getting All-Star right-hander Lance McCullers back in the rotation. McCullers, who's been out since July 31 with back discomfort, has rejoined the team and could start Wednesday's series finale against the Mariners, Hinch said.
Correa, 22, was having a Most Valuable Player-caliber season for the Astros, hitting .320 with 18 doubles, 20 home runs and 67 RBIs in 84 games. McCullers is 7-3 with a 3.92 ERA in 19 starts this year, and he has been on the disabled list twice.
