HOUSTON -- Friday's 5-1 loss to the Royals was a rough defensive game for Astros catcher Evan Gattis, who allowed runs on a sixth-inning catcher's interference and a bases-loaded passed ball in the eighth.
The Royals scored another pair of runs after the passed ball, putting the game out of reach and handing the Astros their second straight loss.

The Astros trailed 1-0 and were on the verge of getting out of the sixth unscathed, until Gattis' glove made contact with Paulo Orlando's bat.
"I guess [the bat] hit my glove before the ball," said Gattis, who was behind the plate for starting catcher Brian McCann's day off. "It happens. I've got to keep my glove back further. I guess I just reached for the ball a little bit. It's frustrating. I need to give him more space."
Astros starter Mike Fiers nearly worked out of a jam in the sixth after he loaded the bases by walking Mike Moustakas and Brandon Moss and giving up a single to Eric Hosmer. With two outs, Fiers quickly got ahead of Orlando, 0-2. Two pitches later, Orlando fouled a ball off, but went to first on Gattis' interference, allowing Moustakas to score for a 2-0 Royals lead.
In the eighth, the Royals went ahead 3-1 when Salvador Perez scored on a passed ball. Gattis was expecting a slider, but Jandel Gustave threw a fastball, which crossed up Gattis.
"There was a mix up," Gattis said. "Me and Gustave had a mix up, and that was that. I'm frustrated with the way it happened."
