The Astros Foundation announced today that James "Colby" Callaway will be the Tournament Director of the newly-acquired Houston Open Golf Tournament.
Callaway joins the Houston Open on Sept. 4 following a successful, 18-year tenure with Pro Links Sports, serving as the Tournament Director for AT&T's PGA Tour Champions event in San Antonio from 2004-15. Colby also has direct experience in operating the FedEx Kinko's Classic and SBC Championship. He brings nearly two decades of experience in professional golf, consulting and tournament management to the Houston Open.
"We are excited to bring Colby Callaway on board to direct the Houston Open benefitting the Astros Foundation," said Astros Owner and Chairman Jim Crane. "His wealth of experience in golf event management and passion for the sport will help elevate the Houston Open as one of the premier golf tournaments in the country."
"I've felt fortunate during my 18 years in the industry to have learned golf event management from one of the best in the business," said Callaway. "I look forward to working with the Foundation and bringing that experience to the Houston Open. Texas is my home and I am thrilled to be part of the next chapter of golf in Houston."
The Houston Open Golf Tournament will be primarily underwritten by the Astros Foundation, beginning in 2019, as set forth by an agreement in principle between the Foundation and the PGA Tour. The proposed agreement is for five years (2019-23). The 2019 tournament is scheduled for the Fall and will be played at the Golf Club of Houston, with a $7.5 million purse and 500 FedExCup points awarded to the winner. The 2020-23 tournament location will be announced at a later date.
