Astros on Spanish FM radio for first time

La Nueva 94.1 FM to broadcast all 162 games

February 12th, 2016

HOUSTON -- The Astros and the Latino Broadcasting Corporation announced Friday a multiyear agreement to carry all 162 games on La Nueva 94.1 FM this year, marking the first time Astros games will be broadcast in Spanish on the FM dial.
The 2016 season will be the ninth calling Astros games for Francisco Romero (play-by-play) and the 21st for Alex Trevino (color), the former Astros catcher who spent 13 seasons in the Major Leagues. Popular Astros icon Jose Cruz will also make frequent appearances in the broadcast booth as in past seasons.
"We are extremely excited about this new venture with the Astros," said Omar Romero, CEO of the Latino Broadcasting Corporation. "We're proud to make history as the first FM station to carry Astros games in Spanish and are thrilled to start a long and mutually beneficial partnership not only for our organizations, but for our beloved community."
Astros president of business operations Reid Ryan looked forward to the partnership.
"We feel that the 2016 season has the chance to be very special for the Astros," he said. "We're very pleased that La Nueva 94.1 FM will be bringing that excitement to many of our great fans."
Hector Guevara is president of the Latino Broadcasting Corporation, which was founded by he and his brother, Roberto. The LBC is based in Houston and owns two Spanish-speaking radio stations in the city: La Nueva 94.1 FM and La Mejor 104.5 FM.
