PHILADELPHIA -- Astros outfielder George Springer is considered day to day after leaving Monday's 13-4 win over the Phillies in the third inning with left quad discomfort. Astros manager A.J. Hinch said he expects Springer to avoid the disabled list, though he won't start Tuesday.
Hinch said Springer's spike got caught in the ground while fielding a double hit off the wall by Tommy Joseph, though he was able to finish the inning defensively, making a catch on a ball hit by Cameron Perkins and throwing to first for an inning-ending double play.
"I knew the rain was coming, so the conditions weren't going to get any better," Hinch said. "There's nothing really to be alarmed about. We're going to be very, very careful with him. We've got a couple of [roster] decisions the next couple of days with the off-day Thursday. He was on the bench for the end of the game and is moving around fine. He made the play at the end of that inning. He's day to day."

Springer, who missed the final 2 1/2 months of the 2014 season with a strained right quad, said the muscle got tight after the Joseph double.
"I tried to go after the ball and my foot went one way and my body went the other," he said. "It happens. I'll be all right. We'll see what happens [Tuesday] and hopefully I can help the team."

Springer, who went 0-for-2, entered Monday hitting .415 in July, which ranked second in the American League. He was also second in the league in runs, on-base percentage, OPS and tied for fourth in hits.
