ANAHEIM -- Right-hander Lance McCullers, who was skipped from his start Tuesday because of a blister on his right index finger, is expected to be slotted back into the rotation on Monday against Seattle, which would have been his normal turn in the rotation had he thrown Tuesday.
McCullers started the season on the disabled list with right shoulder soreness and has made eight starts since his return in May, going 3-2 with a 3.91 ERA. He said he noticed the blister during his start last weekend Kansas City and said manager A.J. Hinch and the medical staff decided to skip him.
"It's not like a huge deal," McCullers said. "A lot of the guys on the team deal with blisters. Their advice to me was to take it slow and make sure you get rid of it before it gets any worse. The medical team and A.J. made a decision to skip me today and I'm sure I'll start again."
McCullers played catch prior to Tuesday's game without any issues. He had the tip of the finger covered with a bandage.
"He's looking fine," Hinch said. "I think we're being conservative. He very well could have pitched today and we could have taken a risk the blister wouldn't have gotten worse. We're shooting for Monday just to be ultra conservative and not affect the rest of the bullpen, the rest of the rotation that's already being affected by the off-day."
Hinch could have pitched McCullers this weekend at home against the White Sox, but he didn't want to alter the rest of the starters. That means Mike Fiers will start Friday, Doug Fister on Saturday and Collin McHugh on Sunday.
