HOUSTON -- Astros manager A.J. Hinch spoke via phone on Monday with Major League Baseball senior vice president of baseball operations Peter Woodfork about the new slide rule, which abruptly halted the Astros' ninth-inning rally on Friday in Milwaukee.
Umpires ruled Colby Rasmus made an illegal slide at second base and gave the Brewers a game-ending double play. Hinch took issue with the call because Rasmus didn't touch Brewers shortstop Jonathan Villar and the Brewers had no chance to get Jose Altuve at first base anyway.

Hinch said Rasmus slid past the base because of the nature of the play and not needing to slide until he was 5-7 feet away from the bag.
"It's a topic that I'm getting asked about every day, so I'm assuming [Woodfork] gets asked," Hinch said. "The umpires asked me about it again yesterday when I went out on the field.
"Nothing gets resolved [during the discussions] as much as everybody gets an opportunity to say their piece. I feel the same way as the other day. I think the rule goes too far and takes a little bit of competition out of the hands of the players."
