Prospect Foltynewicz combines on one-hitter

Right-hander Mike Foltynewicz, the Astros' No. 6 prospect and No. 51 overall, struck out a career-high 12 batters and combined with reliever Paul Clemens for a one-hitter Monday as Triple-A Oklahoma City defeated Omaha, 5-1.

Foltynewicz threw 93 pitches in six innings, his longest outing of the season. He walked two batters and allowed Omaha's lone hit, a solo home run by Melky Mesa. Foltynewicz finished his start in style, striking out the final six batters he faced.

Clemens relieved Foltynewicz to start the seventh and closed out the game with three perfect innings. The pair combined to retire the final 16 batters of the game in order.

After a few rough outings to start the year, Foltynewicz has seemingly found his groove. In his last five appearances (four starts), he has struck out 25 batters in 23 innings and posted a 1.96 ERA. Overall this season, he has a 4.20 ERA and a 31-to-15 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 30 innings.
