Astros prospect Ruiz shines with four hits
Correa singles twice; Appel allows three runs in three innings
In a wild, back-and-forth game in one of the best hitter's parks in baseball, third baseman Rio Ruiz stood out even in a losing effort Monday. He had a career-high four hits and hit his first home run of the season, but Class A Advanced Lancaster still lost to High Desert, 11-10.
Ruiz, the Astros' No. 11 prospect, went 4-for-5 with a home run, two doubles and five RBIs. His big night marked his fourth straight multi-hit game and saw him raise his batting average to .356.
The game was started for Lancaster by right-hander Mark Appel, last year's No. 1 overall Draft pick and the Astros' No. 2 prospect. He allowed three runs on five hits in three innings. He struck out four batters and walked none.
Shortstop Carlos Correa, the Astros' other No. 1 overall Draft pick in Lancaster, went 2-for-6 with two runs.
