Astros Release 2015 Schedule

Home Opener is April 6; Season Will Mark 50th Anniversary of Astros Name, Astrodome

HOUSTON, TX -- On April 12, 1965, the newly-named Houston Astros hosted the Philadelphia Phillies in what was the first regular-season game ever played in the brand new Astrodome, which was known as the "Eighth Wonder of the World."

The Astros, who had been the Colt .45s in their first three seasons (1962-64), became a part of history that day as the first team to host an official Major League game indoors. The 2015 season will mark the 50th anniversary of Houston's first season as the Astros and of the opening of the Astrodome, which the Astros called home from 1965 through 1999.

The Astros will open the 2015 championship season at Minute Maid Park on Monday, April 6 vs. the Cleveland Indians in what will be the first of a three-game series.

Highlights from the 2015 home schedule include nine games vs. the in-state rival Texas Rangers. The Astros, who reclaimed the Silver Boot in 2014 by winning the Lone Star Series, will host the Rangers in three-game sets May 4-6, July 17-19 and Sept. 25-27, with the latter two series falling on weekends. As part of Interleague play next season, the Astros will take on teams from the N. L. West, which will include home series vs. the San Francisco Giants (May 12-13) and Los Angeles Dodgers (Aug. 21-23), marking the first visit to Minute Maid Park since 2012 for those two storied franchises.

The summer months will include home matchups vs. the New York Yankees, whom the Astros will host for four games June 25-28, and the Boston Red Sox, who will be in Houston for three games, July 21-23.

As always, the 2015 home schedule will include a bevy of matchups vs. the Astros other A.L. West division rivals. The Oakland A's, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Seattle Mariners, all of whom are in playoff contention this season, will play 27 games at Minute Maid Park in 2015.
