Astros sign third-round pick Rodgers
Right-handed pitcher was 96th player taken overall in 2012 Draft
HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros announced today the signing of right-handed pitcher Brady Rodgers, who was selected in the third round of the 2012 MLB First Year Player Draft. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow made the official announcement.
Rodgers, 21, becomes the first Astros draft pick to sign with the club. He played collegiately at Arizona State, where he posted a 10-3 record and a 2.27 ERA (29ER/115IP) this season. Rodgers finished his career at ASU with a 2.39 career ERA in 286 total innings. His ERA ranks second in school history.
“Brady Rodgers has just signed his contract a few minutes ago and he is officially the first deal that we’ve completed for this draft,” said Luhnow. “He’s going to be here with his family at the game tonight and we’re delighted to have him on board. He’ll be out playing in the Astros uniform really soon.”
A three-time Pac-12 All-Conference recipient, he was named to the Pac-12 All-Conference First Team, Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger All-America Second Team and the College Baseball Hall of Fame Pitcher of the Year Watch List this season.
Rodgers is originally from Richmond, TX, where he attended Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, TX. While at Lamar Consolidated, he was a four-time All-District player, and earned All-State honors in his junior and senior seasons.
