Astros Trade Conger to Rays, Announce 2016 Contract Tenders
Carter was not tendered a Major League contract
HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have traded catcher Hank Conger to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for cash considerations. Additionally, the Astros tendered 2016 Major League contracts to all but one of their unsigned 40-man roster players, as infielder Chris Carter was not tendered a contract. Tonight was the deadline for all Major League clubs to tender contracts to players on their 40-man rosters. The announcements were made by Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow.
Carter becomes a free agent, free to sign with all 30 Major League clubs.
The Astros now have six arbitration eligible players remaining on their 40-man roster in catcher Jason Castro, right-handed pitcher Josh Fields, designated hitter Evan Gattis, infielder Marwin Gonzalez, left-handed pitcher Dallas Keuchel and infielder Luis Valbuena.
Following tonight's moves, the Astros 40-man roster now stands at 37.
