Athletics announce 2014 Spring Training Schedule

2-Time Defending AL West Champs Open vs. Giants Feb. 26, Will Play 31 Cactus League Games

OAKLAND, Calif. - Gunning for their third straight AL West title and postseason appearance, the Oakland A's will start anew Wednesday, Feb. 26 when Bob Melvin's club christens the 2014 Cactus League season against their cross-bay rival San Francisco Giants at Scottsdale Stadium. 

According to the Spring Training schedule released by the club today, the A's and Giants will play seven times in the preseason, including the Cactus League opener and traditional three-game Bay Bridge Series in Northern California March 27-29 which serves as the final tune-up before the regular season for both clubs.

The A's are offering exclusive travel packages, which include game tickets (both home and away), choice of hotel and flight options, exclusive pre-game meet and greets with private lunch, and custom A's merchandise. The 2014 Athletics will play 31 games in the desert this spring before returning home for the Bay Bridge Series. Following an off day March 30, Oakland will usher in the new campaign by hosting one of last year's AL Wild Card entries, the Cleveland Indians, on Opening Night at the O.co Coliseum Monday, March 31 at 7:05 p.m.

The A's will stage 15 home games at Phoenix Municipal Stadium this spring, which will be their last year at the facility before relocating their Spring Training and minor league operation to Mesa, Ariz. in 2015. Oakland's Phoenix Muni debut comes Thursday, Feb. 27, when they host the Milwaukee Brewers. Other top home attractions include the defending NL West Champion Los Angeles Dodgers Monday, March 3, a pair of 2013 Wild Card clubs in the Texas Rangers Saturday, March 1 and Saturday, March 15 and the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday, March 25, and the traditional St. Patrick's Day contest against the Chicago Cubs Monday, March 17.

Besides the Cactus League opener, the A's and Giants will square off Feb. 28 at Phoenix Muni, and March 15 and 21 at Scottsdale Stadium. The subsequent Bay Bridge Series features night games (7:15 p.m.) at AT&T Park in San Francisco March 27 and 28, and an afternoon finale (1:05 p.m.) at Oakland's O.co Coliseum March 29.

Remaining home exhibition games in Phoenix include the Brewers March 4, the Arizona Diamondbacks March 7, Chicago White Sox March 9, Kansas City Royals March 12, Colorado Rockies March 13 (the spring's only home night game at 7:05 p.m.), Seattle Mariners March 22, the Cubs March 23 and the Los Angeles Angels March 26.

Pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training Friday, Feb. 14 and participate in their first workout in Phoenix Feb. 15, while the remainder of the team reports Wednesday, Feb. 19, with the first day of full squad workouts Feb. 20.
