Erwin leads Beloit in combined no-hitter

August 24th, 2017

Zack Erwin and Joseph Camacho were untouchable on Wednesday as the duo combined to throw a no-hitter for Class A Beloit in a 3-0 win over Quad Cities.
It was the Snappers' first nine-inning no-hitter since 1996.

Erwin, 23, started the game for Beloit and faced the minimum over six innings, recording four strikeouts and seven ground-ball outs, while throwing 50 of his 79 pitches for strikes. He offset the two baserunners he allowed in the performance, using a pickoff to erase a two-out error in the second inning and then inducing a line-drive double play following a leadoff walk in the fifth.
Erwin's scoreless start was his second this month as well as his seventh in 17 turns this season for Beloit. Overall, the left-hander has pitched to a 2.12 ERA with 84 strikeouts and 21 walks over 86 innings in the Midwest League.
Comacho replaced Erwin in the top of the seventh to deliver three more hitless frames and seal Beloit's no-hitter. Throwing 31 of his 48 pitches for strikes, the 23-year-old righty walked one and notched a pair of strikeouts en route to his first save of the season. He lowered his ERA from 3.23 to 2.94 with the scoreless performance.
