Atlanta Braves celebrate Heritage Weekend June 24-25

The Braves will once again celebrate Atlanta's rich history in the civil rights movement and the role baseball has played in society with their annual Heritage Weekend. The 2016 Heritage Weekend will take place from June 24-25, and is presented by Bank of America, Delta Air Lines and Grady Hospital.

The Braves will once again celebrate Atlanta's rich history in the civil rights movement and the role baseball has played in society with their annual Heritage Weekend. The 2016 Heritage Weekend will take place from June 24-25, and is presented by Bank of America, Delta Air Lines and Grady Hospital.
On Friday, June 24, the Hank Aaron Champion for Justice Award Ceremony presented by Delta Air Lines will take place at the Center for Civil and Human Rights. The weekend continues on Saturday, June 25, with a high school baseball Fantasy Camp presented by Bank of America; a special pregame ceremony to honor Negro Leagues players presented by Grady Hospital; and finally, a postgame concert featuring Flo Rida presented by Coca-Cola and Delta Air Lines.
The 2016 Hank Aaron Champion for Justice Awards will be presented to four outstanding individuals who have made a lifelong commitment to overcoming industry obstacles and inspiring future generations. The 2016 award recipients include: co-founder of the National Farmworkers Association Dolores Huerta; National Urban League President Marc Morial; two-time Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee Oscar Robertson; and Atlanta Braves Vice Chairman John Schuerholz.
Following the award presentation, the winners will participate in a panel discussion on the role of athletes in challenging discrimination and societal barriers. The panel will be moderated by Frank Ski of Atlanta's V103 radio station. Additionally, during the game on June 25 the Atlanta Braves will don the Atlanta Black Crackers uniform while the New York Mets will wear the Brooklyn Royal Giants uniforms to honor the Negro Leagues. The Atlanta Black Crackers game-worn jerseys will be autographed by Braves players following the game and will be auctioned off from June 29-July 10 on www.Braves.com/charityauctions to benefit the Atlanta Braves Foundation and the Center for Civil and Human Rights.
