Garcia makes most of time, hits 2 HRs in 2 at-bats

Outfielder caps short stint with 465-foot blast, could play even more with Tilson out

August 3rd, 2016

DETROIT -- entered Tuesday's game in the fifth inning as a defensive replacement after Charlie Tilson strained his left hamstring in his Major League debut.
Garcia belted two home runs in two at-bats in the White Sox 11-5 loss to the Tigers. Statcast™ projected his second homer at 465 feet, which is the longest by a White Sox batter in the Statcast™ era (since the beginning of 2015). It was the longest home run hit at Comerica Park this season.
Garcia struggled in July, hitting just .188 in the month with one home run and three RBIs. He has seen fairly sporadic playing time lately, appearing as a pinch-hitter or defensive replacement in five of the last eight games.

He said hitting the two homers Tuesday, especially the second one, felt good and could help his confidence.
"I've just got to keep working, keep focusing," Garcia said. "When they give me a chance, I try to do my best."
• Tilson's MLB debut ends in injury
Chicago manager Robin Ventura said Garcia is likely to see more playing time after Tilson's injury. The second homer certainly didn't hurt his case.
"It had some distance to it," Ventura said. "We've known that's always there. I think lately you're just starting to see him use his hands a little bit better and get some elevation. When you're his size and you figure it out, it's going to go a long way. That's a good sign."
