Garcia to be patient with right knee injury

CHICAGO -- Avisail Garcia was scratched from Friday's White Sox starting lineup against the Twins with inflammation in his right knee. Garcia left in the 10th inning of Monday's game against the Indians due to the knee issue, but he played Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

In comments made by the right fielder following the White Sox 3-2 victory at U.S. Cellular Field, it sounded as if Garcia will be more cautious with his next return.

"It hurts when I put my weight on it and you don't want to rush it. Take a day, see what happens, see how I feel tomorrow," Garcia said. "I want to play. It's just something that's out of my control.

"If I feel better, yes, because I don't want this to get worse. You just have to be patient. I don't want to be in the training room. I came here to compete. I came here to play baseball and I hate to be in the training room."

J.B. Shuck replaced Garcia in right and finished with two hits, one run scored and the game-winning sacrifice fly in the eighth, bringing home Gordon Beckham. Shuck found out about the start during Friday's batting practice.

"He had a great game tonight," said White Sox manager Robin Ventura of Shuck. "The last minute you put him in there, he knows how to play."

"Everybody had a little role in it. It was a great team win," Shuck said. "Samardzija did a great job, after the first inning, of just shutting them down, giving us a chance. We had some big at-bats and everybody came through today."
