KINGSPORT, TN — The Kingsport Axmen wrapped up their 2021 campaign with a bang.

The Axmen downed the Tennessee Stix, 3-2, in a seven-inning exhibition game on fireworks night at Hunter Wright Stadium.

Kingsport took an early lead and never looked back.

Catcher Blake Scott drove in Preston Steele with a sacrifice fly to left in the second inning. Three batters later, left fielder Logan Harbin darted home on a wild pitch, doubling the Axmen advantage.

In the fourth, Harbin and Scott smacked back-to-back base hits, putting runners on the corners. Just like he did two innings earlier, Harbin advanced to score on a wild pitch.

Starter Cole Hales spun five scoreless innings, limiting the Stix to just two hits. Hales registered seven strikeouts and issued one walk.

Down to their final out, the visitors plated a pair to cut the deficit down to 3-2. Kingsport right-hander Brock Browning entered and shut the door to secure the win.

The Axmen concluded their first season with a 17-33 record. Kingsport notched a 12-19 mark across the first portion of its summer before tallying a 5-14 record over the final three-plus weeks.

2022 Kingsport Axmen season tickets will go on sale in the fall of 2021.
