McFarland placed on bereavement list

SEATTLE -- The Orioles will place left-handed pitcher T.J. McFarland on the bereavement list, losing him for a minimum of three days, and add another arm prior to Tuesday's series opener against the Angels.

McFarland's grandmother, who was recently transferred to hospice care, passed away Sunday.

"He's going to leave us tomorrow and go back home to Chicago," manager Buck Showalter said of McFarland, who will travel with the team back to Baltimore first. "Our hearts go out to him and his mom. … Tough times. There's another life than baseball. I know T.J. was pretty close to her. I know he feels good about being there tomorrow."

McFarland was dominant on Sunday afternoon, pitching a scoreless ninth inning in the Orioles 3-2, 10-inning series win. He picked up the win to improve to 4-2 with a 3.07 ERA on the year.
