Baltimore's Matusz disciplined

Baltimore Orioles pitcher Brian Matusz has received an eight-game suspension for having a foreign substance on his arm during the bottom of the 12th inning of his Club's Saturday, May 23rd game against the Miami Marlins at Marlins Park. Joe Garagiola Jr., Senior Vice President of Standards & On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

Matusz's suspension had been scheduled to begin this afternoon, when the Orioles are to begin a home series against the Houston Astros at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. However, he has elected to file an appeal. Thus, the discipline issued to him will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
