Memorable displays of power have earned Mets right-hander Bartolo Colon and Cubs second baseman Ben Zobrist co-National League Players of the Week honors.
Colon earned two wins on the mound last week, first throwing eight shutout innings against the Braves on May 2 and then beating the Padres with a strong 6 2/3-inning effort Saturday. But the most impressive feat for Colon -- who is 3-1 with a 2.82 ERA on the season -- came at the plate.
A popular hitter for GIF enthusiasts, Colon did the unthinkable, launching his first career home run. The 42-year-old and 19-year veteran became the oldest player to hit his first career homer.

"It means a lot," Colon said through an interpreter. "It's something that I still can't believe until now."
The Mets' bench celebrated, went into hiding and then celebrated again after giving Colon the silent treatment. And Twitter exploded.
"I really don't know what to say," said the opposing manager, San Diego's Andy Green. "Some things leave you speechless."
Not to be outdone, Zobrist hit four home runs of his own this past week and drove in 15 to help lead the Cubs to impressive sweeps of the Pirates and Nationals. Zobrist hit in all seven games and posted a .360/.455/.880 slash line.
"I've seen this before, and it's so nice to see this power resurgence," Cubs manager Joe Maddon, who has known Zobrist since their days together with the Rays, said after Zobrist's two-homer game Friday. "He's getting pitches and not missing them, and it really provides protection for [Anthony Rizzo]. The other team has to think twice, and that's good."
