Colon preps for Aguilas start with 'pen session

Veteran righty set for first Dominican League outing since 2012-13 campaign

November 27th, 2018

The Aguilas Cibaenas announced that veteran pitcher threw a bullpen session on Monday, ahead of his anticipated start for the team in its Dominican League game against the Tigres del Licey on Thursday in the city of Santiago, D.R., home of the Aguilas.
In a news release from the Aguilas on Tuesday, Colon was quoted on the state of his control on the mound -- one of his notable attributes in his recent years in the big leagues.
"I put the pitches where I want. That has stayed the same," he said.
Last season, Colon became the winningest Major League pitcher born in Latin America, passing Nicaraguan-born Dennis Martinez on the list with his 246th victory. In 21 seasons in the big leagues, the 45-year-old Colon has compiled a record of 247-188 with a 4.12 ERA. He had a 7-12 mark and an ERA of 5.78 in 28 games (24 starts) with the Rangers in 2018.
Absent from the Dominican League since the 2012-13 season, Colon has a lifetime ERA of 2.57 in his native country's professional baseball, with a record of 9-5 in 35 games (30 starts).
An MLB free agent, Colon has said that he'd like to pitch in all five stadiums across the D.R. in its winter league this season.
