Play Beat the Streak now -- and lock in these picks

May 27th, 2022

Beat the Streak is back for the 2022 season -- and the $5.6 million prize is still up for grabs.

The idea is simple -- pick one player (or two) every day who you think will get a hit. The objective -- surpass Joe DiMaggio's record-long 56-game hitting streak -- is a bit more challenging.

But we are here to help with that. We'll provide BTS leaderboard updates and daily insights on favorable matchups in this space, as well as every weekday on the new “Beat the Streak Daily: Inside the Hits” podcast.

Let's take a closer at the action from yesterday and today:

HITTERS TO TARGET TODAY

Brendan Rodgers, Rockies (vs. Nationals)
If it's not broke, don't fix it -- right? We rolled with Rodgers yesterday and he wasted no time rewarding us, roping a double in his first at-bat. We're going right back to him as he gets another quality matchup against Nationals starter Aaron Sanchez, who enters with a 7.16 ERA. The veteran righty has allowed opponents to hit a blistering .355 while serving up a whopping 39 hits in just 27 2/3 innings. Sanchez is also yet to pitch more than 5 1/3 innings, meaning Rodgers will also likely get a couple cracks against a Washington bullpen that ranks near the bottom of the Majors in opponents' batting average (.252).

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Blue Jays (vs. Angels)
After going 15 games without an extra-base hit, Guerrero has homered in back-to-back contests, including taking Shohei Ohtani deep on Thursday night. Even with the temporary power outage, Guerrero has at least one hit in 17 of his past 21 games. He also gets a matchup in this one against Chase Silseth, who is making just his third career MLB start. Each of his first two outings came against the A's, with Silseth allowing three runs on six hits in just 4 1/3 innings his last time out after tossing six innings of one-hit ball in his MLB debut.

OFFENSE(S) TO AVOID

Angels (vs. Blue Jays -- Alek Manoah)
The Angels obviously have plenty of offensive weapons -- and we'll never question you for rolling with Mike Trout -- but Manoah comes in with a 1.62 ERA through eight starts. He's holding opponents to a .197 average, and he's completed at least six innings in all but one of his eight outings this season.

Mariners (vs. Astros -- Justin Verlander)
Verlander has somehow looked as good as ever after being limited to just one start over the past two seasons due to Tommy John surgery. He hasn't allowed a run in any of his last three starts, lowering his season ERA to 1.22 through eight outings. In two starts against the Mariners, Verlander has allowed just two runs on eight hits over 14 2/3 innings. Overall, he's holding opponents to a ridiculous .161 average while allowing just 28 hits over 51 2/3 innings.
