"Bumtown": The Bumgarner family has deep roots in North Carolina's Caldwell County that go back 100 years. There's an area called "Bumtown" for all the Bumgarners residing on both sides of Deal Mill Road. Bumgarner owns a 38-acre farm about three miles down the road from where he grew up.
The great outdoors: Bumgarner is a noted outdoorsman. His offseason hobbies include fishing, hunting and farming. He's even gotten into cattle roping.
"I grew up on a farm, riding horses all the time, but I had never roped," Bumgarner said. "I started dating my wife and her parents roped. It looked like something I wanted to do. I fell in love with it. That's what we do all winter."
