Zobrist pleased to contribute with pair of jacks

TORONTO -- Ben Zobrist certainly didn't have anything to prove to his new teammates.

But after two tough losses in a Kansas City uniform, Zobrist was eager to do something to chip in. And he did just that on Saturday with two homers and a double in the Royals' pulsating 7-6 win over the Blue Jays.

Zobrist's homers were from each side of the plate -- the last time he did that was April 13, 2014, at Cincinnati. His first homer came in the first inning off Blue Jays starter Mark Buehrle. His next one in the eighth tied the game at 5 and came off reliever Mark Lowe.

"It feels incredible," Zobrist said. "You're trying for good swings on the ball. When you switch around in a game, it can be tough.

"And it can be hard to get the ball elevated off Buehrle because he keeps the ball down so well. And on Lowe -- that was a tough pitch, too. I was just trying to get the barrel on the ball against him, and I stuck my bat out and hit it down the line [in right]."

After two tough days, Zobrist said he's starting to fit in.

"For sure. It helps a ton," he said. "The first couple of games, we don't win, so it's nice to be able to contribute to a win. I am just trying to do the little things and sometimes you get to do the bigger things."

Zobrist was impressed with the way the Royals fought back from a 5-1 deficit off Buehrle.

"I saw it before with this team," he said. "I knew this team was like that. It's good to see that nobody panics. Nobody tries to get outside of themselves when you get down by four runs. They all continue to believe they'll get the job done."
