CHICAGO -- The Yankees will have three representatives at the 2016 All-Star Game, as Carlos Beltran, Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller have been selected for the American League roster for the July 12 contest at Petco Park in San Diego.
Beltran and Miller were selected via the player ballot, and Betances was one of seven players selected by Royals manager Ned Yost to round out his squad. It is the ninth All-Star selection for Beltran, the third consecutive honor for Betances and the first for Miller.

"I'm very proud and very happy of being able to accomplish this at this point in my career," said Beltran, who will be representing the AL for the first time after previously appearing with the Astros, Mets and Cardinals. "It has been a lot of work throughout my career. I have to thank God for the opportunity of allowing me to be an All-Star at this point in my career."

Beltran, 39, has been the most productive hitter on the Yankees' roster this season, leading the club in hits (83), doubles (17), home runs (19), RBIs (54), batting average (.302) and slugging percentage (.571). He said that a tight right hamstring should not keep him from participating.
"What he's done this year, you can argue that he can be the starter," Betances said. "I'm honored and thrilled for him to do it at this stage of his career. He's 39, he's been in the league for about 20 years. I'm sure he's excited, and I can't wait to share that moment with him."

Betances, 28, has now reached the All-Star Game in each of his first three full Major League seasons, as two-thirds of the Yankees' vaunted "No-Runs DMC" trio is expected to help assemble a power bullpen for the Junior Circuit. Betances is 2-4 with a 2.63 ERA in 41 appearances, allowing 31 hits with nine walks and 74 strikeouts in 41 innings. He said that he is honored to have been selected by Yost.
"I'm thankful of that, obviously," he said. "Ned Yost has had a great bullpen out there these last couple of years. You've seen what they've been able to do. It's something that he likes, especially last year in the All-Star Game. He picked a lot of relievers. It worked for them last year, and hopefully, it'll be the same this year."
Miller, 31, is 5-1 with a 1.47 ERA in 36 appearances, having allowed 20 hits while walking five and striking out 66 in 36 2/3 innings. He is excited to see what all the fuss is about and has already started asking Betances what to expect when he reports to the festivities.

"It's one of those things you dream about getting an opportunity to do," Miller said. "You try to make the All-Star team, starting in Little League all the way up. To do it at this level is something special. Fortunately, I've been able to put together a couple of good months here to start the season, and I'm just looking forward to it."
Yankees manager Joe Girardi lobbied for Beltran, Betances and Miller, in addition to shortstop Didi Gregorius and left-hander Aroldis Chapman, who were not selected.
"I think they deserve it," Girardi said. "I think Carlos has had a great first half. You look at his numbers, they're really, really good. And those two guys at the back of the bullpen have been outstanding. You get in a game like an All-Star Game, you want guys who are strikeout guys, and that's what they are. They're a big part of what we do here, and I'm happy for all three of them."

For the fifth consecutive year, the Final Vote will include social balloting, as Twitter support for the 10 candidates over the last six hours of balloting will count toward their vote totals.
