MEXICO CITY -- The Padres socked five home runs, including first-inning shots by Jabari Blash, Adam Rosales and Jon Jay off Astros starter Brady Rodgers, to cruise to a 21-6 win in the final game of the Mexico City Series on Sunday afternoon at Fray Nano.
Blash hit a three-run homer after Jay walked and Cory Spangenberg singled, and Rosales followed a hit by pitch with a two-run shot to left. Jay, batting for the second time in the inning, added a two-run homer to make it 7-0. The Padres scored nine runs in the first.
"Any time you hit three home runs in an inning, that's the way you like to draw it up," Padres manager Andy Green said.

The lead was 11-0 before Colin Moran got the Astros on the board with a solo homer in the sixth. The Astros were behind, 12-4, when the Padres erupted for eight runs in the seventh, including a two-run homer by Casey McElroy.
"It was a long day," Hinch said. "And we got through it. It wasn't ideal to have our starters not get through the first [inning]. We had a couple of long innings. We brought a lot of young pitching and they were able to get through the day. Even with the results, it was a tough day."

Mexican-born starter Cesar Vargas worked three innings for the Padres and allowed two hits, no runs, two walks and struck out five. Rodgers was rocked for eight runs and six hits, including three homers, in two-thirds of an inning, and reliever Brendan McCurry also gave up eight runs in two-thirds of an inning.
"We loved being here," Hinch said of the Mexico City Series. "Even with the results today, it was a great experience for our players, for our coaches, for the players, for me. The fans were great, the atmosphere was fun. Today's result was not what we were looking for, but we leave Mexico very happy we were the team that was chosen to be part of this.

"I hope fans in Mexico start to watch Astros baseball," Hinch added. "We have a lot of fun players, some that were here and some that weren't. We have a fun team to watch and a lot of relatable players to the people that live in Mexico, and we're not too far away. Come see us."
Up next for the Astros: The Astros, who have spent the past two days playing split-squad games in Mexico City and Florida, will reunite closer to their Kissimmee, Fla., home on Monday, facing the Braves at 5:05 p.m. CT at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex. Right-hander Doug Fister will take the mound for Houston, making his fifth spring start. Left-hander Wandy Rodriguez, battling for the last rotation spot, will also pitch in relief. The Braves will counter with former Astros farmhand Mike Foltynewicz.
Up next for the Padres: The Padres will have their full squad in action for the first time since Thursday when they head to Surprise, Ariz., to face the Royals at 1:05 p.m. PT on Monday. Drew Pomeranz gets the chance to make his case for one of the club's two available rotation spots. He's allowed seven runs in 11 innings, but opponents are hitting just .209 against the lefty.
