Billingsley exits rehab start; checks out OK

Dodgers right-hander Chad Billingsley, who missed most of 2013 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, had to come out of a Sunday rehab start for Class A Rancho Cucamonga in his second inning.

"His first inning was really good," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "He felt a little sensation [in his elbow] in the second inning. As a precaution, they got him out of there."

Billingsley returned to Dodger Stadium, where he was examined by Dr. Neal ElAttrache while the Dodgers were playing the Giants.

"We were concerned, but we got good news during the game," Mattingly said. "Doc looked at it, and felt good about it."

The Rancho Cucamonga start was one of five planned in Billingsley's road back to the big leagues. It's not known how this setback will alter that plan.

Billingsley was not available for comment after the Major League game. He retired San Jose on eight pitches in the first inning, but had to come out three batters into the second after throwing 18 pitches in 1 1/3 innings. Billingsley was scheduled to throw two innings or 25 pitches.
