GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton, who has been limited to one exhibition game because of soreness in his surgically repaired right shoulder, has made some progress. After being limited to cardio work, Hamilton has resumed baseball activity.
"He took dry swings yesterday, he'll hit off the tee today," Reds manager Bryan Price said Wednesday. "He was able to do the dry swings without any complaints. It'll be a progression, we've got our fingers crossed there won't be any setbacks moving forward. If that's the case, we can progress more toward on-field baseball activity and eventually back in the games."

Hamilton had arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder in September.

• Price was happy to see outfielder Jesse Winker, the Reds' No. 1 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com, get two hits in Tuesday night's game vs. Giants ace lefty Madison Bumgarner. Winker is 5-for-13 with a double this spring.

"He's certainly not in mid-season form, but he's still a tough left-hander and he's got great stuff," Price said of Bumgarner. "He's a great competitor and he's not just out there getting his work in, he's a real pro. So I was really pleased with that. With Jesse, in particular, he's hit a lot of balls right on the screws with nothing to show for it. He had a ground ball that rolled through the right side the other day, then yesterday two base hits. They're starting to fall.
"He's had great at-bats all spring. He looks really locked in. I'm sure it's good for his psyche. He was hitting balls right on the screws and guys are running them down in the outfield."
