Billy Joel to play Citizens Bank Park on Aug. 2

PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies will be playing the third game of a four-game series against the Nationals at Nationals Park on Aug. 2, when Billy Joel will be playing in center field at Citizens Bank Park.

Live Nation announced Thursday that Joel will make his first solo headlining appearance at the ballpark, which will be his first appearance in Philadelphia since 2009.

"We are honored to host Billy Joel in one of his few scheduled performances," vice president of Phillies enterprises Richard Deats said in a statement.

Joel has received six Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Legend Award. He is in the Songwriter's Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and he has received numerous industry awards.

American Express Card members can purchase tickets before the general public, beginning Monday at 10 a.m. ET through Jan. 30 at 10 p.m.
