Blue Jays claim Roach from Reds; righty to join Triple-A

ARLINGTON -- The Blue Jays claimed right-hander Donn Roach off waivers from the Reds on Tuesday afternoon, and he's set to join Triple-A Buffalo later this week.

Roach was designated for assignment by Cincinnati on Sunday after posting a 2-4 record with a 6.00 ERA in seven starts for Triple-A Louisville. He began the year in the Cubs' system and had a 2.33 ERA in 15 starts.

The 25-year-old Roach has made 17 career appearances in the Major Leagues, including two starts. He was originally drafted in the third round of the 2010 Draft by the Angels and has since played for the Padres, the Cubs and the Angels.

Toronto placed outfielder Michael Saunders on the 60-day disabled list to make room for Roach on the 40-man roster. Saunders was previously ruled out for the season because of a bone bruise in his left knee.
