Blue Jays claim reliever West from Rangers

The Blue Jays claimed right-hander Matt West off waivers from the Rangers on Wednesday and designated righty Cory Burns for assignment.

The 25-year-old West, who converted from the infield in 2011, made his Major League debut for the Rangers last season. He allowed three earned runs over four innings (6.75 ERA) in three relief appearances.

West was 5-3 with a 3.34 ERA in 41 appearances (one start) between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock last season, striking out 64 batters in 56 2/3 innings.

Burns, 27, was claimed off waivers in September from the Rays.
