TORONTO -- While the Blue Jays were down in St. Petersburg over the weekend, it gave the club an opportunity to catch up with second baseman Devon Travis.
The 25-year-old is currently rehabbing his left shoulder after undergoing surgery in November.
"He was really optimistic when we saw him," said manager John Gibbons. "He came over to the games afterwards. I don't know if he's ahead of schedule or anything, but there wasn't anything lingering [injury-wise]."
Travis is back hitting live pitching in extended spring training games.
Shoulder problems plagued Travis during his rookie season. Travis posted an .859 OPS and eight home runs in 62 games in 2015. He wound up on the disabled list on two separate occasions last season with inflammation in his left shoulder.
Gibbons said there is no timetable for the West Palm Beach, Fla., native to return to the Blue Jays.
While in Florida, the Blue Jays also saw right-hander Bo Schultz, who is with Class A Advanced Dunedin on a rehab assignment.
The 30-year-old, who is recovering from hip surgery, has allowed three earned runs on three hits while striking out one in 1 2/3 innings over two appearances.
